Raindrop
Technique is a type of aromatherapy anointing developed and introduced
during the 1980’s by Dr. Gary Young founder of Young Living Essential
Oils, based on his research with essential oils as antimicrobial agents.
These substances are called the “life blood” of the plant
because they protect against infections and other diseases. Humans have
used the healing essence of aromatic plants as incense, perfumes and
oils for medical, worship, and culinary uses for at least 4,000 years.
In developing the methodology, Young was inspired by fascinating information
he learned from a Lakota elder. He went on to incorporate into Raindrop
a special form of light stroking massage the Lakota used to facilitate
the spread of energy through the body. It was called “feather
stroking,” and it is similar to the massage technique “effleurage.”
Utilizing the power of pure, unadulterated therapeutic-grade essential
oils, Young found that he could accentuate them further by integrating
“feather stroking” along with a combination of various aspects
of conventional massage, and adaptations of Oriental acupressure and
reflexology (VitaFlex).
Raindrop uses a formulaic sequence of highly antimicrobial essential
oils: seven single oils, two blends of oils, and a massage oil. These
oils are applied to the feet, spine, and back. The technique can be
customized to address different health issues not directly related to
back problems for children, adults and the elderly.
RDT is a natural healing protocol where oils are dispensed like little
drops of rain from a height of about 6 inches above the back and very
lightly massaged along the spine and back muscles.
